After watching Ironman 2 with my hubby today, we made a quick stop at Walgreen's.
He's never been with me on one of my multiple transaction shopping adventures before. It was a good experience for him, I think, to see what goes into saving us money and building our 'home store.'
The total retail value of my haul was $53.22 before tax. I spent $20.95 before tax. Less than half price... Not too shabby eh??
I got a variety of cards for different occasions. I know they will come in handy as I am involved with lots of people thanks to my Mary Kay business, and I also have a very large extended family. There are so many events!
We go through lots and lots of cereal, so it's always great to add to our stockpile! Especially when it's less than a dollar a box! :)
I have plenty of deoderant on hand, but these two were free and will go great in either a preparedness kit or gift, or they will come in handy during any one of a number of food/commodity drives for the Utah Food Bank. I got a great deal on the puddings. I'm glad to finally have some in our storage again. Patience pays off!!!
The Halls were free. Anyone need cough drops??? I've got quite a bit now! The Irish Spring and Nivea body washes were great deals and will make nice little gifts in bath set baskets. (Always be thinking ahead of how a FREE or highly discounted item might work in a gift basket, whether for family, friends, co-workers, your kids' school teachers, etc. Not everything has to be fore you, and not all of your gifts have to be the same old expensive same old! Be creative!)
The Dawn dishsoap will either be for my own storage or for my gift sets. The fish oil is for me. I'm not a big fish eater, but I know the omega 3 stuff is good for me, so this was a great opportunity to start incorporating that into my regimen.
The two small packs of Easter chocolate were 75% off and worked great as 'filler' items so that I could use all of my Register Rewards.
Tomorrow I will do my regular grocery shopping. I have $50 left in my weekly budget am looking for ways to use it. The beauty of building up such a great supply of all the things you regularly use, is that you start needing less and less on a regular basis. See how the money can add up in your piggy bank??? I think since there aren't many 'food storage' type stock up sales this week, I will just get the essentials, milk, eggs, and fresh fruit, and then use the extra $30 to pay extra on our car payment this month..... :) It's nice to see all of my hard work paying off. I knew this would be the outcome eventually, but now that it's happening, it's like wow!!! It actually worked!!! Getting to this point of having extra in my weekly budget has taken approximately 2 months of planning, clipping coupons, hitting 5 stores in one day, and being a bit stressed one day each week, but I can see now that it is going to start adding up in savings. Be patient! You can do this!!! $30x4 weeks=$120.00 $120.00x12=$1440.00 Worth two months of work??? :)
