Today I went to Sam's Club with my best friend. I used to have a club membership, but then I got into coupons and let the membership lapse. There have only been a couple of perks or food deals that I have missed. Not enough to renew my membership though, especially when lots of my family and friends are members and are willing to put up with me mooching every couple of months. :)
I ended up getting all that I needed for the week in the one trip. The milk was $1.67 per gallon. A pretty good price but Smith's has it cheaper some weeks. (did you know that you can freeze milk??) I do love their big bags of frozen Normandy Blend veggies though and haven't been able to find a better deal elsewhere, so I stocked up. The ground turkey was average price. Remember, just because it's in bulk and looks like a lot so it must be a great deal, ALWAYS look at the price per pound/unit/ounce!!! You just might be surprised.
I needed sugar for my food storage and for daily use and got two huge bags of C&H at a really great price.
A few other odd and ends that we were out of and I called it good. I am satisfied with what I got and with how much I paid. It was strange not using coupons... I felt some withdrawal symptoms, but I got through it! :)
After seeing that some of their prices have gone up on a few things that I always used to buy there, it does make me feel much better about not renewing my membership. I don't think I would save enough money there to make it worth it. I've questioned that decision a time or two in the last few months, so it was good to have this reaffirming experience.
Lesson Learned: If you can get away with dragging a card carrying member friend or mother to your local super club giant store now and again for bulk items, don't bother spending the money on your own membership. (The only exception would be if you drive a car with low mpg. You will likely make up in gas savings what it cost for the card in no time. They usually have pretty good members only gas prices.)
