How I am saving the world and some money

Here are the ways I have chosen to save money while also saving the world:

I bought these flip flops at a yard sale last summer for $2. I worn them nearly non-stop ever since. Even in the winter! Well, the toe piece came unglued. I grabbed my epoxy (an UNOPENED package I found in a dumpster last summer) and used it to fix my flip flops!

It has to hold for 12 hours and then I will have my favorite flip flops again!
I could have gone and bought a new pair and doomed these to a land fill. I even considered it for a moment. Hate to admit that...
Anyway, reason won over. Phew! The body of the flip flops is just fine and they are super comfy. So excited to put my sneakers away again!

I've also chosen to save money and the world by baking my own bread this week.

I had all the ingredients on hand and this is a super easy recipe. I don't have to pay for bread. The plastic that wraps store bread won't end up in the garbage. There are all kinds of savings in production in the bigger picture but I don't wanna get into that right now. :)

One other way I chose to save the world today:

Excuse the sideways-ness of this picture. :) Instead of getting my groceries in bags, I used this convenient box that the eggs were in. It even had handles. So very convenient and sturdy.

What can you do today to save the world and/or some money? If we all just took little steps and made small changes, we could totally make a better world for our babies and have the money to take care of them. :)

Macey's CLEARANCE!!

I stopped by Macey's in Spanish Fork today to grab some of the ad deals. While there, I found several over-flowing carts of clearance merchandise!! Theatre boxed candy from $.39-.59. All sorts of other candy at low prices. A cart full of toy guns, canned soup, frosting and more!

 The Clearance items I got were:

Alright, a new friend of mine suggested I check out the documentary "Dive" on netflix. I watched it, absolutely awestruck, appalled, and excited!
It seems logical that this is my obvious next step in saving the world and money at the same time...

Smith's report

I didn't find much to be excited about at Smith's today in the clearance department. I did grab some cantaloupe and one vitamin supplement really cheap but that was it.
They have a few sales on their ad that are kind of worth looking at but nothing to jump up and down about.
 I also hit Rancho Market and Sam's Club. Rancho is in the middle of a renovation. It will be nice to have all the extra room. I think they need to tweak the new set up though. It is still just as difficult, if not more, to get to the registers.
As I was cruising through Provo, I noticed several overflowing dumpster at apartments I missed. I'll be making a trip up there tomorrow morning to check it out. I am running through all of my Smith's acquired inventory faster than expected and I might move up the date of my yard sale, so I need to gather up some more good stuff! I highly recommend getting your sanitary gear together and hitting a couple buildings this week. Next week will be too late!
I am going to do my rounds of recycling bins today. Hoping for more text books and Kellogg's codes and of course more great coupons!

Profits

I finished sorting and putting away all of my new inventory yesterday. I have an area in the shed where all of my yard sale stuff goes. Feeling good about what I have so far. Planning to have my first sale the first weekend in June.
I also finished listing all of my online items. I was thrilled to have a few items sell immediately at my buy it now prices. A $45 profit in less than an hour. Not too shabby. :) I also got this last round's sold items packaged and ready to ship. It was all things from Smith's that I either got for $.25, FREE, or was paid to take. I was amazed at the profits!! Feeling so blessed!
I will be hitting Smith's today and am hoping to find a few more things for ebay. My new self-requirement is to have 50 active listings at all times.
Today I am going to take one hour to go through old inventory and see what should go online for a last try. I'll have more inventory coming in with all the school's closing for the summer and I made a deal with the hubs that I will not let it take over any but our designated areas. It is a bit tricky but not if I stay on top of it and keep working through older merchandise. I am determined to be more efficient and organized this summer, making less overall work and frustration for myself and my business.
Starting out with an organized system will truly save you time and headaches later. I know it can be hard, when you're caught up in the excitement of the gathering stage but it is so worth it to take some time out to get situated. Trust me!

Yesterday's Dive!

Yesterday was so exciting!! School is out at our local universities and students are moving out in droves! I packed up my gloves, my grabber and my step stool and headed into town with an empty van. Twice I filled it!
Assorted housewares, clothing, towels, cans of food, school supplies, a perfectly lovely dvd player and remote, a microwave, blow dryer, cleaning supplies, school supplies, text books and more!
Just with the text books, which all happen to be current, I should profit at least $400. I will list them this week on a revolving auction. They will stay on ebay until they sell. This way I'm reaching the summer and fall students.
Some of the items I am keeping, such as:
Pajama pants for the hubs
Gobs and gobs of colorful tissue paper (unopened!!)
Packages of toilet paper, lunch sacks, napkins and more!
Cans of unexpired food
Cooling racks, cereal bowls and scrub brushes
and more!
Everything else will go online or in my yard sales this summer. I have the shed and attic prepped and organized for the new loads and will get everything sorted and put away today.
My husband asked if I am having a yard sale this weekend since I got all this stuff. I don't like to use up a weekend for small profits. Rather, I'll wait till I have a good inventory and will be much more likely to rake in a good amount of money. Someday he will understand my method... :)
I may do a little bit of shopping today but most of my energy needs to go toward chores at home. So much to catch up on!
I get in these moods where I have complete tunnel vision and the rest of my responsibilities fall by the wayside. I've been so focused on shopping and selling and diving. It is important to maintain a balance and treat it like a job with set hours. Otherwise it can all become very addictive and out of control.
I hate to miss double Tuesday at Walmart but alas, I must be responsible!
Then again, maybe I will hurry fast and get all the chores done in time to still get to Walmart this evening... We shall see. :)
